We booked a room here to attend a wedding over the Cinco de Mayo weekend. There weren't many choices in the area, and we were a little wary after reading mixed reviews. Although it wasn't exactly as we expected for the price, it wasn't bad! Check-in was easy, and the staff extremely friendly. It's one of the great things about family-owned hotels! At the time we booked, there were only kitchenette rooms left. You can check out the room layout online:
http://www.thelodgeatbluelakes.com/map.html

We got room #7, with the Queen bed, rather than two doubles. Although it was comfy, the bed squeaked a lot. So did the wooden floors! But otherwise, it was very quiet and peaceful - far enough away from the highway to avoid any street noise.

The bathroom had nice, modern fixtures (except the tub), with good water pressure and quick hot water. It was a little small and somewhat cramped because of the layout, but who spends much time in the bathroom anyway, right? Oh, for you women: no hair dryers provided. Luckily, I brought my own!

The kitchenette was also tiny, but more than adequate. Electric range/oven, sink (with dishwashing liquid) and fridge, full tableware & dish sets plus pots, pans and cooking utensils. There was no microwave, although I think we could have requested one. Oh, there was a coffeemaker, but no coffee or other supplies, so you have to bring your own. There's a tiny convenience store/deli next door

All in all, it was a very peaceful and beautiful setting! The lake was gorgeous, and the water looked inviting. If we'd had more time, we definitely would've taken advantage of the kayaks provided by the lodge.

Some of the minor things we thought were a bit misleading, based on their website description and the actual thing:

"Luxurious" rooms -- Other rooms were probably different, but ours was definitely not a luxury room! We suspect our room was may have been the owners' room originally.

Colorful Linens & Bath Towels -- Ours were dark gray and were even more frayed than the ones we have at home! The bathmat was bright yellow, so I don't know what color scheme they were going for. Still, they were clean and fresh smelling, so they did the job.

Mini Refrigerators - Wow, if this was a mini, I'd hate to see the full-sized! It looked like a regular-sized fridge to me - nearly 4 feet high with a full fridge and freezer. Can't image how long you'd need to stay there in order to fill it up!

Breakfast Buffet -- Day one, we received a plastic bowl (ice bucket, really) with an apple, an orange, two mini muffins and two matchbook-sized raspberry pastries. It was delivered to our door at about 9am , along with an ad for special event hair services. I'm not sure this was specifically because we didn't go out to the lobby area for the breakfast, or if they knew we were there for a wedding. Day two was post-wedding, so all the wedding guests who had rooms met at the gazebo for a continental breakfast. It was basically: orange juice, apples & oranges, muffins and coffee. The coffee was ok for me, an infrequent coffee drinker, but not for my husband. We ended up driving in search of better stuff, and found a great place by the Lakeport Safeway.

All in all, I think it's a great place for a quiet, relaxing getaway. If you're looking to be pampered in a luxury hotel with five-star (or even four-star) amenities, go elsewhere. But if you are looking for a quiet getaway, somewhere to relax by a beautiful lake, read or nap in the sunshine, this is the perfect spot.
