| I have wanted to go to the Atlantis Resort since it opened so this was a lesson in perception versus reality. The commercials make it look so wonderful so I was so disappointed. The grounds are beautiful. There are so many wonderful views. It is filled with fountains and pools.
The staff was also extremely friendly. Everyone had a smile. Also, the water activities that we did were a lot of fun. The current was a lot of fun as were the power tower slides. They have lots of aquariums and lagoons. However, these few things were the only good qualities.
Too many activities were closed for the price I paid. They also would not let you know ahead of time what was closed so you'd walk all the way across the resort only to be turned away. Each morning they would deliver a paper with scheduled events, but it would have been real easy to list the closed restaurants, water activities (slides, etc), and lagoons. It became very frustrating when one day we wanted to go to the beach. So we walk to the door closest to the ocean only to be told we had to go back the other way that we could not use that exit. So we walk all the way back and manage to get to the beach only to have an employee tell us that beach was closed!!! So then we have to walk to another beach, where no one was allowed in the water. If you went in the water a lifeguard would direct you out. The private Atlantis Beach was a joke. I didn't go to the Bahamas to be babysat.
The activities also required a wristband to show you are a guest, but getting a wristband was a hassle. You had to go to a towel hut which most of those were closed. We'd get directed to one only to get there and have to find another one. They should make it easier to get a wristband. They should deliver them in the morning to each room with the paper or have them available at the front desk.
While walking through the lobby you are constantly bombarded by time share sales people. We could not walk through with out being bothered. That got very old and frustrating. One morning we went down for breakfast and noticed that each table had someone sitting with them trying to sale them on their houses.
If you go expect to pay a lot for food. I had been told that the food was overpriced, but I had no idea how much. For 3 days, my husband and I spend $600-700 and that was not eating anything that fancy. We mainly ate burgers and pizza. For a big bottle of water it was $10. For an ice cream on the beach it was $10. I don't think I will ever go back just because of how overpriced the food was. I am going to leave individual reviews for each restaurant, but just overall the food was too expensive.
My last major complaint is that there is no privacy. You are always being watched and monitored. For instance, it would have been nice to get to take a nighttime walk on the beach, but they are closed at night!! Well, let me take that back, the only open beach was closed at 3pm. It is ridiculous to pay that much and not be given any freedom.
The negatives outweighed the positives so I do not think I will ever go back. My husband feels that it might be different if we went in the summer, but it would be too crowded then. My travel tip is that if you are going to go and are not wealthy, bring an ice chest from home, stop by a grocery store on your way from the airport and buy some food. I wouuld buy some bottled water, fruit, snacks, lunch meat and bread. I'm sorry $3 for a banana is too much.
I would also watch out buying the meal plan because if we had done that our choices would have been limited with the restaurants being closed.
