| The wife and I just wanted to get away and retreat for an evening. We wanted a place that was a little rustic and not at all pretentious. We originally thought a kamping kabin at the KOA in Petaluma would work, but being winter and not up for a walk to the potty at 1 in the morning when it is freezing, we deided to look further. We were on a strict budget of under $100, which made it difficult. I searched Hotels.com and kept searching until I came across this gem. Just west of the Safeway in Guerneville, we decided to give it a try. we arrived and took a minute to get our bearings on where to check in, We finally found the little sign and step in. We were greeted with a warm smile and informed we had been upgraded from a cabin to a chalet, no charge. We got to our room and it was perfect. overlooking the beautiful grounds the room was simple but with a gas burning stove in the sitting area and a very comy Queen size bed, we had all we needed to take some of our stresses away.( Note don't take a chance on getting upgraded just book the Chalet, it is worth the extra 30 bucks or so.) The rooms were very clean, simply appointed. and with the stove quite romantic. Also being close to town was great. We braved the cold December afternoon and walked up and down Main Street and got the balance of our Christmas shopping done. we came back to the room and relaxed and read for a couple hours as the sun set on the day. We headed over to the roadhouse restaurant for dinner. Check out my review here for more detail, but it was absolutely fantastic. We retired to the room to get the long night sleep we came for. We retired around nine and awoke the following morning to the sound of rain. Having been given a verbal tour by one of the owners (I presume) we wanted to check the property out, After imbibng in the simple fares of the continental breakfast (free with the room), we ask if they had an umbrella we could borrow to go explore their 15 acre riverside retreat. They gladly obliged and off we went in the pouring rain. We walked the orchard and the path to the boathouse checking out the different cabins. We are thinking of planning a family reunion in 2010 and think this may be the perfect spot. Friendly and very gracious hosts made this little one day getaway one neiither of us will forget. Another note. Don't expect a big luxuious bath. These units were built before indoor plumbing so the bath rooms are small and come equipped with a very small shower stall. But hey it is better than a Kamping Kabin with the showers a hundered yards down the road!
