4.In a restaurant: a vindictive server
Look, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the best tipper. Think you're any better? Then take this quiz. My score was a miserable 5 out of 15. I think the reason I'm bad at this is that no one ever tells us how much to tip. They leave it to our discretion, which is not a smart thing.
But that's no excuse for the way in which some servers have been behaving lately. And I'm not just talking about the blog war over a 10 percent tip that recently broke out in Seattle. Stanley Roberts, who runs a terrific restaurant site called We8there says even fast food eateries have been hitting up their patrons for tips. "Oh give me a break", he says.
Yes, give us a break.
Dear Mr. Roberts,
Thank you for your excellent customer service, and assistance getting my listing for www.twochefsdeli.com done. Today I promoted your site to another restaurant - they may end up getting submitted by me, or by their webmaster.
In any case, after much restaurant-specific research, that is why I selected your site for running online listings and review promotions. I have made it absolutely clear, in bold text, to my clients that they must not abuse your service (or any other for that matter) with 'planted' reviews. We plan to add a link to the website so that patrons can easily do their own reviews online, and also (I hope) add the URL to tabletop comment cards or checkout receipts.
One of the reasons I selected your directory (apart from the push to other SE's) is that it makes it EASY to get clients to do a review. Other sites/directories have more hoops to jump through. Bravo.
And I approve whoeheartedly of getting true, honest, clientele reviews.
May your directory prosper!

Fiona Dudley

This ingeniously named site offers real-customer reviews of both popular and out-of-the-way restaurants across the United States, and several international cities as well.
Simply choose your state, city, or type of cuisine, and read all about the thoughts of others who have gone there before.
It's a helpful site, but for the life of me I can't understand how this site can include a review of South Philadelphia's Geno's cheesesteaks and not its across-the-street rival, Pat's.
I'll have to try them both again and write in.

I love this site! We really dine out a lot, especially because we travel often for business. What a great way to expand your taste bud horizons with the assistance of real reviews on local restaurants before traveling to an area. I also love that the rants and raves are often verified to help keep out the riff raff! Who wants a review with an agenda?? Experience is often the best teacher and reading others' experiences and recommendations is the
perfect way to increase your chances of pleasing your palate. There is nothing worse than a bad dining experience and we8there.com can help keep those instances to a minimum. Kudos!
Thanks!

Dear Stanley,
Thank you for the follow up call, it was much appreciated. I wanted to say thank you for verifying the situation I had at a restaurant in Arlington Heights, Illinois. To make a long story short, we had a bug in our food and was overcharged at the restaurant that we had gone to for over 10 years. The owner's wife didn't give us all of our money back, only a portion (even though we brought all of the food back), at least not until they were contacted by you from we8there.com. I was so surprised that your website actually verified the situation prior to posting it on the website. I figured that no one would care about this and that they might not believe me. But to come and find out that because we8there.com contacted the restaurant for verification, the owner called me to say he was really sorry for the situation that occurred and that he was going to give us a full credit for the entire meal. I was so pleased to know that because of your website our story was heard and brought to the owner's attention. If it wasn't for your site, we wouldn't have received our money back like we deserved. This also shows restaurant owners and employees that the customers are important to their business and should be their number one priority. I mean what's the loss of $30 now or whatever the cost one time,
compared to hundreds later from loss of business. I know that I will continue to use your website and will let everyone know that this is a great site to check out and post reviews on. It's great to know that a site like yours is out there. I wish your site continued success!!
Thanks again,
Natalie Klusek
Mr. Roberts,
Planning to retire in North Carolina, and searching for a "nice" place to dine, I stumbled on to the Crawford House Cafe in Currituck [see my review 2-8-03]
Impressed ... I ended up buying the Crawford House Cafe in March '03 and have been having the time of my life ever since.
Thank you for your web reviews of restaurants of the world. Your service was instramental in my decision after reviewing other local eateries.
