| I should start by saying that this is a review of Merrill Magee's restaurant, not its hotel rooms. I should also mention that I live in the area and have eaten in many of the restaurants in the Lake George / Warrensburg area. Most of the local restaurants serve low-budget family fare. At the higher end, there are a few gourmet restaurants (the Inn at Erlowest; Friends Lake Inn). The Merrill Magee House falls in the middle, with entrees from about $17-26. On a recent visit, the quality was OK, but not great, with a lot of near misses, but no home runs. The crab cakes were made with cheaper claw meat and shreds instead of the more costly lump crab and are to be avoided, despite the low cost. The Horseradish and Panko Crusted Salmon was dry, overcooked and not very fresh, despite my having questioned the waitress before ordering about the quality of the salmon (my visit was on a Fri night, when seafood deliveries should not have been a problem). A special pasta dish described as having a 'pesto cream sauce' didn't have a trace of basil or anything else that was green; it was simply a bland Alfredo sauce. The Grilled Filet mignon was described on the menu as being accompanied by sauteed portobello mushrooms, but the two servings that my party ordered had no mushrooms. Despite the omission, the filet was the best item we ordered. Overall, you'd be better off going to one of the other middle-tier restaurants in the area (the Grist Mill; George's; Brunetto's).
