| The food cannot be called Mexican cuisine, at best it is something you eat when there is nothing else and you are starving. Never have I ever felt so dis-respected by a waiter in my life we waited 60 min for a meal that we tasted in 40, I say tasted because after a few bites we decided to stop eating and left our plate almost full . My palate and stomach deserve better so we opted to leave after only a few tastes and payed our $70 dllr check for two no drinks might I add. This place is def. overhyped and seriously overpriced, whoever said this place serves Mexican cuisine should seriously check their taste buds because I feel sad for them if this is the best they have ever tasted.

| After reading all the great reviews of this restaurant, my expectations were high but the experience didn't rise to that level. The best comment, at our table of 10, was "this is good," tapering to "it's okay" and ending with "this is really not very good." Speaking only for myself, my chil relleno was soggy and contained large chunks of Bell peppers; the three shrimp had the tail on, the crab was not discernable and the cheese was stringy. My margarita was okay but at $12. I was expecting bliss. The La Perla margarita at Rancho de Tia Rosa, in Mesa, is far better and costs less. The food, at Tia Rosa's is also superior and you can't argue about it being a better neighborhood. On the plus side, for Barrio Cafe, the welcome was genial, the service was professional and the setting has charm. Oh yes, and the churro dulce la leche dessert - delicious.

| The Barrio Cafe was so good we went back 4 times during a 4 day stay in the Phoenix area. The service is outstanding and friendly, the food is wonderful and I loved the relaxed atmosphere. This is a place I could bring my 72 year old father or 23 year old son and all would leave happy. My top pick: pollo poblano and the wonderful churro for an after dinner sweet.
