| Took the family to the Christmas brunch buffet at the Shogun, located in the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikiki. As always, on major holidays, it was packed. Shogun's best asset is its wide variety of foods, ranging from sushi & sashimi, udon noodles, crab legs, steak & mushrooms, tempura, salads, fruit, assorted desserts, including pastries & soft-serve ice cream. Everything was tasty, although some at our table thought the butterfish was a tad underdone, and there were a few pieces of sashimi & maguro sushi that were a bit sketchy. But again, it was Christmas, and the crowd was incredible.
Despite the crowd and cafeteria-like seating, the high ceilings make conversation possible. However, if you have the means, I highly suggest opting for a private or semi-private room instead! In most cases, you have to walk from where you're seated into the room where the buffet is, so it's not the best situation for wheelchairs. At least the hallways are spacious!
Service was great - the staff was very attentive and friendly. One word of caution: our check did not include a detailed price-breakdown (it's a buffet), so it wasn't clear whether the automatic tip (since we had a party of 6) was already included in the total given on the charge slip. We tipped anyway, since it was Christmas!
Parking is available in the hotel garage for $1 with validation, but it may fill up fast, especially on busy holidays. Attire is pretty casual, and although many Waikiki eateries allow it, I don't think you'd want to arrive shirtless or in bare feet at a buffet!
